The best things to do on Magnetic Island
Must do activities on the Island
Marlin Bar
A 7 minute drive from Kooyong and with ample outdoor seating, the Marlin Bar is the spot to be for a couple of sundowners or a pub classic from the Bistro. Looking right over the foreshore to the beach it is the best spot to see a great sunset over the western point of Horseshoe Bay.
Pleasure Divers
Just on Marine Parade not far the Arcadia Hotel is Pleasure Divers. Offering both PADI and SSRI dive courses as well as snorkelling gear, maps or even guided tours, Owners Nick and Tom have a wealth of knowledge on the island aquatic life. Whether it's a snorkel on the Moltke Wreck in Geoffrey Bay at low tide or an advanced Dive at the stunning S.S. Yongala (One of the Top ten wreck dives in the WORLD!) they will have you covered.
Magnetic Island Country Club, Picnic Bay
The Magnetic Island Golf Course is a pretty little 9-hole course with a difficulty that belies its length and is only a 9 minute drive from Kooyong. With kooky rocks jutting out of fairways and a short par-3 which Greg Norman supposedly called one of the hardest par 3's around (Apparently it was the one of the first golf course the famous queenslander played on!), be sure to grab a few cold cans from the clubhouse and enjoy a one of a kind course. Yes they have carts and it's very very casual but be warned.... don't wear your hat inside!
Walking tracks, Various locations
Magnetic Island is 80% national Park and has a great selection of walking trails to choose from, maps of which can be found in the Magnetic Island magazine. The nearest one starts at the end of Endeavour Road just 350 metres from Kooyong Apartments and leads to Either Nelly Bay, the Horseshoe Bay Road (where it connects with other tracks such as the Forts walk) or you can just go the the Sphinx Lookout which look over Alma Bay and Arcadia (Amazing for sunrise if you're keen!). Be sure to take plenty of water on longer walks and be mindful of remaining light, especially if you plan to walk out from Radical Bay (It's longer than you think!)
